[ music | David Bowie - Diamond Dogs ]

so.... last week was pretty much one of the busiest weeks ever. but now everything is over.

AP tests = done, I think I did really well on english and gov, and I hope I passed calc.

Our David Bowie cover band played its first show and I think it went well. People said we sounded decent.

I went to E3 and played PS3 and a bunch of new games on xbox 360 and decided I need to get one asap. E3 itself was awesome, I got a bunch of free shit. also learned about LEGO STAR WARS 2 YESSS

Our lacrosse team won the championship on saturday, and that was really really awesome. here's a picture of me owning this one kid:

so now every day I come home from school at 2:00 and don't have to do anything, which is an awesome feeling that I think some of you take for granted.

also, foster's home for imaginary friends is by far my new favorite show.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back. We're The Masters Of Disaster. [01 Apr 2006|06:32pm]

[ music | Millencolin - Soft World ]

ok so I've gotten over the extreme disappointment/anger that I was feeling yesterday. granted, going to rice would have been sweet because they have an awesome sports management program and having my aunt and uncle and their mansion close by would have been sweeter, but oh well.

after doing some research, I've realized that Miami should have been way up higher on my list.

before I go any further, let me clarify that this is Miami University, located in Oxford, Ohio, not the University of Miami, located in Miami, Florida. and as the students like to say:

but anyway, Miami also has a sports management program, and while it is not as intensive as Rice's, it is still very good and very developed. so thats a big plus.

It also has a very good athletics program. It is one of only 4 schools to graduate a president (Benjamin Harrison) and a Super Bowl-winning quarterback (Ben Roethlisberger). Their hockey team is also really good, which is cool. they also have a lacrosse team that I could probably play on. It has about 15,000 students, and it is in a town of 8,500, so the school is basically the town.

so, I like it, and its probably where I'm gonna be spending the next four years of my life. here's a couple fun pictures.

They have a Luxembourg campus, and it is this castle. This is bad ass. This is probably where I will study abroad.

hooray

Well You Know That I'm A Wicked Guy, And I Was Born With A Jealous Mind. [13 Feb 2006|09:22pm]

[ music | The Beatles - Run For Your Life ]

so I just put a few pictures from my camera on my computer. you can see them here. )

so anyway more about my trip to houston and Rice:

the night I got in I got as sick as I've ever been. it was pretty bad. I'll spare you most of the details, but I got no more than half an hour of sleep at a time between midnight and 6 am due to excessive 'things' coming out of both ends of me. sometimes at the same time! fun! so friday I was on the couch/bed all day. we're not really sure what caused it, probably just some stomach bug. although I could blame it on dennis, he had the same thing and I was in his family's car on the drive to the airport. but whatever. I layed in bed/on the couch and listened to every beatles album, and decided that rubber soul is my favorite. I also read the book high fidelity, you know, the movie with john cusack and jack black and the record store? yeah. its an even better book. you should read it.

so I toured rice on saturday, and it was really awesome. it has only 2800 undergrads, which is like twice the size of costa. and its a relatively small campus, fairly easy to walk from one end to the other. an average class size is between 10 and 20, and we saw some classrooms that were just a table with 10 chairs around it, and the professor sits down and talks with you. 94% of the classes are taught by professors, as opposed to TAs, which is pretty cool.

also, instead of having fraternities or sororities, they have this thing called the "college system." every undergrad is put into one of 9 colleges, all named for donors to the school, and each one has their own colors and songs and what not. they compete in intramural sports, and then at the end of the year whoever has the most points gets the "president's cup." its like harry potter without the magic.

overall it was definitely a place I could see myself, and houston was cool too. never gets too cold, and I leave before it gets unbearably hot and humid. plus it would be nice having my aunt and uncle less than 30 minutes away, with their mansion and pool and driver and what not. but I have to get in first.

[ music | Operation Ivy - Sleep Long ]

so i'm officially fully 100% done with college stuff, after my mom made me apply to four more safety schools.

the remaining list is now:

  • harvard

  • virginia

  • rice

  • vanderbilt

  • safeties:
  • richmond

  • texas

  • miami of ohio

  • purdue

today when I got home from lacrosse practice I had acceptance letters from miami ohio and purdue. and purdue is giving me $14,100 in merit-based scholarships, which kicks fucking ass. too bad theres almost no chance I'll go there, unless I dont get into any of those first four schools. but still. free money. radical.

so finals start tomorrow. my last finals ever. fuck you, finals. I'm totally borderline A/B in french, calc, and gov. wahoo. but next semester I'm TA'ing for Mellis because I took econ over the summer. best move ever.

in terms of updates on the rest of december, it actually went really well, the trip to chicago was awesome but it was way too cold to take pictures, as the warmest it got was 23 degrees. the football game was -10. ouch. but probably the most fun I've had at a sporting event.

the trip to tahoe was equally as amazing, and I won the bowl pool, giving me $130.

with that and xmas/birthday money, I bought a PSP, which has proven to be a fantastic investment. me and greller play madden all through calculus.

I went to the avengers game on sunday and it was awesome, if anyone wants to go to future games, let me know. I'm going to try to go to as many as possible.

yeah that's all I got.

[ music | Rage Against the Machine - Renegades of Funk ]

um so december hasn't quite gone as planned so far.

we didn't win CIF (we were robbed) and I didn't get into duke. but oh well. I'm over it. there's still the second half, so hopefully I used up all my shitty luck in the first half.

today was my b-day (and of course the lovely charlie herrick's) and aside from the duke thing it was pretty sweet. I got a buncha cool shit, but my biggest present is the whole chicago trip. we leave tomorrow morning, I'll take lots of pictures.

also, from the 26th-31st I'm going to tahoe with my family and seven friends. that should be awesome. also chirstmas. and bowl season.

come on december, don't completely let me down....

p.s. the original version of this song is amazing. see: Afrika Bambaataa - Renegades of Funk

FUCK YOU SCAR I TOTALLY KICKED YOUR ASS

so I stayed after school in la vista today until 5 so I could beat the lion king. it was perhaps one of the greatest accomplishments of my life.

p.s. the lion king is based on hamlet. I found this out today, and it just reinforces my theory that shakespeare's stories would be freakin' sweet if people knew what was going on. (see also: Romeo + Juliet)

I Will Wait Here Forever. [20 Nov 2005|06:46pm]
[ mood | good ]
[ music | Bear vs. Shark - California Hotseat ]

ok so its been a while since I did an update that was informative or anything.

football has been pretty swell, except it kinda controls my life. but a good kind of controlling.

the past few weekends (when not at football practice / playing poker) have been spent working on college applications. I didn't want to apply to a lot of schools, because I don't really see much sense in that. So the list looks like this, and in somewhat this order:

  • Duke (Early Decision, I will know by Dec. 15)

  • University of Virginia

  • Harvard (this was a total "just apply and see what happens" ploy by my parents)

  • Rice

  • Vanderbilt

  • University of Miami (strictly a safety school, as the rest are targets/reaches, it was on the common app and miami is pretty sweet)

so yeah. that's the deal with that.

I really hope I get in ED because my grades are all about to explode.

yeah thats about it... seriously, my life right now pretty much revolves around football.

hooray for thanksgiving.

[ music | Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade ]

Reasons December has the potential to be the best month ever:

  • December 9th or 10th: the day we would win CIF

  • December 15th: my birthday, and the day Duke has to inform me of whether or not I was accepted

  • December 16-20: Trip to Chicago which includes a Blackhaws game the friday night we arrive, dinner at Spiaggia(?), the best restaurant in the world on saturday, and then sunday night football, falcons vs. bears from three rows behind the endzone. plus chicago is my favorite city ever.

  • December 19-30: Winter Break, including Christmas. duh.

I can't wait for December.

also, I saw the Bouncing Souls for the 6th time (I think? maybe 5th.) last night and it was possibly the best I've ever seen them. they finished with Night on Earth, which I'd never seen them play and is one of my favorite songs, and I almost cried because it was beautiful.
